The Fall program meeting of Iowa CURE will be held on November 8th at 2 p.m. at Trinity UMC in Des
Moines. This will be the official Annual meeting of Iowa CURE as required by our by-laws.
Our guest speaker will be Dr. Beth Skinner who has been hired by the IDOC to be the grant coordinator
for the Statewide Recidivism Reduction/Re-Entry Initiative for Iowa Corrections. It is a $3 million grant with the goal of reducing recidivism state-wide. Recently Beth worked on a national level for the Council of State Governments Justice Center as National Reentry Resource Director. She had the opportunity to advise the White House, policymakers, and corrections administrators across the country on the best strategies to reduce recidivism. Previously she worked in community corrections for 10 years in Iowa's community based corrections. She has her M>S>W> and Ph.D in Social Work from the U of I with an emphasis in criminology.
We hope that MANY of you who have had experiences with re-entry as a person returning to society or
are a family member/friend of someone with such experiences will come and give your input. Your personal experiences are very important. What kind of practical help did you get for re-entry into society? What did you need that you didn't receive?
Following the program meeting the Board will meet to discuss future programs and goals for the future of Iowa
